Very Good Reasons Why You Should Get a Tarot Card Reading
Maybe you’re curious. Maybe you have a gut feeling. Maybe you just really like symbols. All these are great reasons why you should get a tarot card reading.
Now, there are some folks out there who believe tarot card readings are only for big, special occasions. You know, the life-shaking big changes that come at you. And yeah. You could definitely have a tarot card reading then.
But you could also do it on Sunday night as you’re getting ready for the week. You could do it because you feel like everything is going really well in life. You could do it because you’re hungry for a change. You could just do it for funsies.
Why get a tarot reading at all? Well, the answer is always up to you. You don’t need a special occasion or a big, momentous life event.
You simply need a clear head and an idea of what you’d like to ask. Then, you can pull some cards or have someone else do it for you.
Tarot cards are there to help you connect with your intuition and offer some clarity. I will admit, though, they aren’t necessarily for everyone.
There are a lot of reasons why you should get a tarot card reading. But before we get to those, let’s talk about why and when you shouldn’t.
When Not to Read Tarot Cards
If you’re wondering when not to read tarot cards, you may have heard some myths about the tarot and how it can affect you. A lot of people wonder can tarot cards ruin your life, and the answer is emphatically no. But I suppose anything is possible if you’re stubborn enough.
The cards, at the end of the day, are mass-produced bits of card stock, and they really only have the power to display images and be shuffled. So, I understand that some people have been cautioned against them, but the cards are just cards. So, by themselves, they can’t ruin your life.
Now, there are times when you shouldn’t read tarot cards. I jokingly say that sometimes people reach for a deck of tarot cards when they should be making an appointment with a therapist. And while I think the cards can be something that offer us clarity or they can be something that brings you reassurance, they aren’t going to fix your life. And sometimes, you need more than reassurance or clarity. You need some help from a professional.
The best time to do a tarot reading is when you’re clearheaded and just looking to connect with your intuition. The cards can’t tell you anything you don’t already know. They just help you figure out what’s hiding in the back of your mind. If you’re wondering now how does tarot work, read about the pneumatic tubes in your brain.
Why You Should Get a Tarot Card Reading
Okay. So. Let’s talk about why you should get a tarot card reading. There are a lot of reasons. But if you’re still on the fence, consider this list of reasons why you should get a tarot card reading.
001: Because you want one.
Okay, so this is basic tarot card reading for beginners, but you can do whatever you want with the tarot cards. You can read them, you can cut them up with an X-acto knife and turn them into art projects, you can glue them into journals, or you can carry one around if it resonates with you.
And you can get a reading just because you want one. There are tons of places to look online if you want an online reading, and there are always readings scheduled at metaphysical stores. I offer readings, and so do tons of other readers.
You don’t need a big reason to get a tarot reading. Wanting one, or just being curious about how it works is definitely enough.
002: Because you want to learn more about tarot card meanings.
Every card reader is different, and every reader interprets the cards differently. You can learn a lot about the cards by listening to others interpret them, and then taking that information and applying it to your own understanding.
Tarot cards meanings are fluid and depend on a lot of factors, like the deck, the reader, and the cultural context.
So, if you want to learn more about tarot card meanings, I recommend checking out some of these tarot books for beginners, or these books on tarot card meanings, and maybe snagging The Tarot Card Meanings Journal to help you work through the cards. But then, for sure, you should schedule some readings and listen to how others interpret the cards.
After you get your reading, write down the cards that were pulled and look them up. The meanings the reader told you for the cards will be different than the meanings listed in a book, and all books will be slightly different.
003: Because you were offered a free tarot card reading.
Never let it be said that I encourage folks to look a gift horse in the mouth. If you’re offered a free reading, you should take it.
I know some people fear tarot card readings because they worry they’ll be told something they don’t want to know. But remember, you already know how to read the cards, and the cards just help you connect with your intuition.
And at the end of the day, you’re a human. So you’re already cursed to live a life as a conscious bag of meat that will die. What could a tarot reader possibly tell you that’s worse than that?
So enjoy that free tarot reading. It’ll be fun.
004: Because you find comfort in symbols and archetypes.
The reason the tarot is a tool for us to access our intuition is because each card has a symbol or archetype on it. We look at those symbols and think about what they mean in the context of our lives.
If you like tarot, chances are you like stories and the hero’s journey. You probably like mythology and legends. You are probably really interested in how stories have changed over time and how cultural context affects the meaning of a story.
Tarot is basically a story. You are pulling cards and trying to figure out what they mean all together. And if you like stories, that’s reason enough for why you should get a tarot reading.
